Last week, we wrote about fostering a culture of philanthropy in your workplace. This week, we’d like to highlight a network of foundations, nonprofits, organizations and individuals who are trying to inspire a culture of philanthropic donations and acts all around the USA—and even the world.
The final days of November in the USA center on one of our best holidays (yay for giving thanks!) and a couple of its hangers-on: Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Now, spending the days after Thanksgiving looking for the perfect gifts for your special someones can be a fun and rewarding thing to do. But, the organizers of Giving Tuesday (the day after Cyber Monday, i.e. December 3rd this year) suppose that there’s something else you can do: raise money and awareness for your favorite causes.
On Giving Tuesday, nonprofits and causes across the USA, Canada and other countries are kicking off the season of giving with a 24-hour melee of funding appeals, donation matches and other chances to make a difference.
We’re thrilled that this festival of funding is taking place right here in Alaska. Take a look at this list of great Alaskan organizations that have signed on to be a part of Giving Tuesday, as of the time of writing:
- Acca, Inc
- Alaska Geographic
- Alaska Legal Services Corporation
- Alaska Youth for Environmental Action
- Big Brothers Big Sisters of Alaska
- Girl Scouts of Alaska
- Northern Alaska Environmental Center
- The Alaska Community Foundation
- Volunteers of America Alaska
However, the best thing about Giving Tuesday is its inclusiveness: just as you don’t have to preregister for a Cyber Monday deal, anyone can be a part of the event, by sharing a story of impact on the Giving Tuesday website or becoming a social media ambassador for Giving Tuesday.
What a lot of fundraising fun! How will you make a difference this December 3rd?
